From June 2026, Delta's daily Airbus A350 lifts off for Hong Kong with more than 20 tonnes of cargo in its belly – one more strand in the densest transpacific network in North America. Los Angeles International Airport (IATA: LAX, ICAO: KLAX) handled 2.29 million tons of air cargo in 2025, down 4.6 percent yet still fifth in the United States and the West Coast leader for international freight. Most of it moves as belly cargo beneath roughly 77 million passengers, supplemented by freighters from China Airlines, EVA Air, Korean Air Cargo, Cathay Cargo and Singapore Airlines Cargo, plus nearly 500 tonnes a week from China Southern Cargo; FedEx and UPS run dedicated stations, while handlers Mercury Air Cargo, WFS and Swissport share the warehouses. Typical loads are Asian electronics and e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, film equipment and fresh produce from Mexico and South America. Foreign Trade Zone No. 202 covers the site and CBP clears around the clock. The I-405 and I-105 feed the terminals, BNSF and UP intermodal yards sit east of downtown, and the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach lie about 35 minutes south. A sweeping cargo redevelopment now aims to consolidate 27 ageing buildings totalling some 2.6 million square feet ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
