LAX Airport (Los Angeles International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Electronics, apparel and perishables move through Los Angeles International (LAX/KLAX) in volumes no other West Coast airport matches: 2.29 million tons of cargo in 2025, down about 4.6% from 2.40 million tons the year before. The traffic splits between dedicated freighters and passenger bellyhold, with FedEx leading the 2025 ranking at roughly 223,000 tons, ahead of Kalitta Air (about 117,000), Korean Air (about 112,000), China Southern (about 111,000) and United Airlines (about 105,000). AeroLogic, China Cargo Airlines, EVA Air, Singapore Airlines and Atlas Air each handled roughly 74,000 to 86,000 tons, underlining how strongly the airport is oriented towards transpacific trade. Inbound flows are dominated by semiconductors and consumer electronics, apparel and e-commerce parcels from East Asia; westbound and southbound exports lean on Californian fruit, vegetables and seafood plus film and entertainment equipment. Cargo facilities are spread across several precincts on the south and east sides of the field, including dedicated buildings operated by Asian carriers such as Nippon Cargo Airlines. LAX is a full US port of entry with CBP clearance, ACE filing and Foreign Trade Zone options, while food, cosmetics and medical devices additionally trigger FDA requirements. Hinterland distribution is almost entirely by truck: the I-405, I-105 and I-710 corridors link the airport to Inland Empire distribution centres and to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach some 30 km to the south-east, making sea-air combinations practical. When capacity tightens, shippers turn to Ontario International (ONT) as the Inland Empire freight and UPS field, or to San Francisco (SFO) for transpacific belly space.
