AUS Airport (Austin Bergstrom International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Booming city, modest cargo numbers – Austin is the curious case among Texas airports. While Austin-Bergstrom International (IATA: AUS, ICAO: KAUS) has rocketed past 20 million passengers on the back of the tech economy, its freight role remains that of a regional station: FedEx and UPS operate daily, and both integrators signed fresh ten-year agreements in early 2026 that also help fund the airport's growth. Belly capacity rises with every new long-haul route, yet heavyweight and intercontinental shipments still mostly truck to DFW, about three and a half hours north. The pressure is building – Tesla's Gigafactory sits at the city's edge, Samsung is constructing a massive fab in nearby Taylor, and semiconductor equipment is exactly the kind of freight that flies. In response, the airport is pursuing a roughly US$5 billion expansion program with 32 new gates: a dedicated cargo project is in design with construction expected from 2026, while the existing Concourse M is slated to become a belly-freight facility. The airport opened in 1999 on the former Bergstrom Air Force Base, and Interstate 35 links it to San Antonio, Dallas and the Mexican border.
