ITA Airways Cargo is the freight division of Italia Trasporto Aereo S.p.A., headquartered at Via Venti Settembre 97 in Rome. The company is 59 percent owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance and 41 percent by Deutsche Lufthansa AG. On 12 May 2026 Lufthansa announced that it would raise its stake to 90 percent; completion is expected in the first quarter of 2027. ITA Airways holds its own air operator certificate issued by the Italian civil aviation authority ENAC under the number IT.AOC.0194 and is a member of Star Alliance. Operating model: ITA Airways does not run any freighters of its own. Cargo capacity comes exclusively from the bellyhold of the passenger fleet, supplemented by a road feeder service. The cargo hub is Rome Fiumicino (FCO), with Milan Linate (LIN) as the second network focus. The long-haul fleet consists of the Airbus A350-900, A330-900neo and A330-200, the short- and medium-haul fleet of the Airbus A321neo, A320neo, A220-300 and A220-100. What matters most to forwarders is the sales set-up: since 16 June 2025 Lufthansa Cargo has been marketing ITA Airways' cargo capacity and counts Rome as its fifth cargo hub. With the winter schedule from 26 October 2025, almost all continental and intercontinental belly capacity moves under the Lufthansa Cargo AWB prefix; routes to and from the United States and Canada are excluded pending regulatory approval. ITA's own IATA prefix 055 remains in place. The IATA designator is AZ, the ICAO designator ITY, the callsign ITARROW. The product range covers general cargo, express and BUP, the specialised Fresh and Pharma products with active and passive temperature containers, plus dangerous goods, valuables and human remains. Billing runs through IATA CASS.
