Norway (ISO code: NO) lies in Northern Europe on the Scandinavian Peninsula, bordering Sweden, Finland and Russia, with a long Atlantic coastline shaped by fjords. It is a constitutionally stable parliamentary monarchy. The climate ranges from cool-temperate along the Gulf Stream-influenced coast to subarctic inland and in the north. Norway is a leading exporter of crude oil and natural gas and the world's largest supplier of Atlantic salmon, alongside aluminium, machinery and maritime technologies. As a member of EFTA and the EEA, Norway participates in the EU single market but is not part of the EU customs union and is not an EU member; customs formalities and origin proofs therefore apply towards the EU, while industrial goods move largely duty- and quota-free within the EEA. Import VAT (MVA) is 25 percent, reduced to 15 percent on food and 12 percent on passenger transport and accommodation. Customs are cleared electronically via TVINN at Tolletaten, with the new Digitoll system being phased in. Logistically, Norway is served by the ports of Oslo (its largest container port), Bergen, Narvik (iron ore from Sweden) and Kristiansand, and by Oslo Gardermoen airport. The national currency is the Norwegian krone (NOK).
