About This Seaport
Bastø Fosen operates the Moss–Horten service across the Oslofjord, the most heavily used ferry route in Norway, with departures roughly every half hour and a growing fleet of electric, partly autonomous vessels — three of its six ships now run fully electric, led by the 139 m Bastø Electric with a 4.3 MWh battery and auto-docking. This makes Horten first and foremost a RoRo and ferry port, geared to accompanied and unaccompanied trailers rather than containers or general cargo. The harbour's naval past — it was Norway's principal naval base until the fleet moved to Bergen after the Second World War — still underpins solid ship-repair and dry-dock facilities. Container, breakbulk and bulk handling for international freight is limited and not confirmed here. Forwarders moving boxed or conventional sea cargo into the Oslo region are better served by Oslo, Drammen or Larvik.
