About This Seaport
Brevik, on the Frierfjord in Norway's Telemark region, is best known as the home port of the Norcem cement plant, one of Northern Europe's largest cement-handling terminals. Operated by Brevik Terminal AS, the industrial port moves roughly 3 million tonnes a year — mainly cement, clinker, dry bulk and break-bulk. The adjacent NorthSea Terminal (NST) focuses on break-bulk and short-sea container traffic. A significant development for logistics operators: container operations at the Brevik Terminal are scheduled to relocate to the new Frier Vest Terminal by late 2026. For deep-sea container volumes, Larvik and Oslo remain the practical alternatives. Since summer 2025, Norcem has been running a CO₂ capture plant as part of the Brevik CCS project, one of the world's first full-scale industrial carbon capture installations in cement production. Port access is by road via the E18 motorway; Porsgrunn is the nearest rail hub. For general dry-bulk and short-sea freight, Porsgrunn and Skien upstream offer alternatives, while Larvik serves container traffic.
