Scandinavian freight rail operator Hector Rail is getting a new owner. Funds managed by InfraRed have reached an agreement to purchase 100 percent of the company from current owner Ancala. The so-called Enterprise Value, which represents the value of the operating business including certain financial positions, is stated at 2.61 billion Swedish kronor. This equates to approximately 229.6 million euros.
It is important to note the wording: the purchase is agreed upon. Such a transaction typically still requires regulatory approvals and the fulfillment of contractual conditions. Only upon closing will the company definitively change ownership.
Hector Rail is regarded as Scandinavia's largest private rail freight operator. The fleet comprises approximately 100 predominantly electric locomotives. The network connects Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Germany, among others. The company transports industrial, timber, steel, and intermodal freight.
For customers, there are usually few short-term changes. Contracts, schedules, and contact persons typically remain in place. In the medium term, however, a financially strong infrastructure investor can accelerate investments in locomotives, corridors, and digital processes. This is only guaranteed once concrete plans are published.
