About This Seaport
Once the shipping point for ore from the Fosdalen mine, formerly Norway's largest underground workings, Malm today retains little commercial port function. The magnetic-separation plant and the lakeside loading dock on Beitstadsundet were demolished in 2001 after the mine closed in 1997. With very shallow water at the former quay, the village is of limited relevance to freight forwarders. Cargo bound for the wider Trøndelag region is better routed through Trondheim or Verdal.
