About This Seaport
Sandefjord is situated in the county of Vestfold on the Oslofjord, about 92 kilometres southwest of Oslo, and is known as a ferry port on the short crossing to Strömstad in Sweden. Color Line operates daily sailings with a crossing time of approximately 2.5 hours and runs its terminal at Strandpromenaden 20; the railway station (Vestfoldbanen) and bus terminal are within walking distance of the ferry quay. Fjord Line, which previously also served the route, discontinued its Sandefjord–Strömstad service in October 2023 and has since concentrated on routes between Norway and Denmark (Hirtshals, Kristiansand, Stavanger, Bergen). No cargo handling takes place in Sandefjord; all infrastructure is geared exclusively to passenger ferries. Historically the city was a major centre of the Norwegian whaling industry.
