FRA Airport (Frankfurt Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Home to Lufthansa Cargo's main freighter operations, Frankfurt Airport (FRA/EDDF) handled around 2.1 million tonnes of air cargo in 2025, up 1.1% year on year, making it Europe's busiest cargo airport for the full year. Growth was driven largely by e-commerce traffic between China and Europe: after the US scrapped its "de minimis" duty-free threshold, part of that trade shifted to Europe, and cargo offloaded from China rose 26.9% to a record 290,000 tonnes in 2025. Beyond dedicated freighter capacity, FRA also carries substantial belly cargo through its extensive passenger network. Operator Fraport is expanding CargoCity South: in February 2026 it signed a lease with Kühne+Nagel for a new 7,600 square metre cargo warehouse, due for completion by the end of 2028, while a land swap between flight operations and cargo is freeing up roughly 43,000 square metres of additional cargo space from 2026. A high-speed charging park for electric trucks, delivering up to 400 kW, opened at Gate 31 in CargoCity South in February 2026. The site connects to the A3 and A5 motorways plus a dedicated rail link, and customs clearance is handled on site within CargoCity. For shippers facing capacity constraints at Frankfurt, Amsterdam Schiphol and Luxembourg Airport (Cargolux's freighter hub) are the main alternative European gateways.
