BER Airport (Berlin Brandenburg Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Few airports opened under as much scrutiny as Berlin Brandenburg «Willy Brandt» (IATA: BER, ICAO: EDDB): nine years behind schedule, it finally began operations in October 2020, mid-pandemic, replacing both Tegel and Schönefeld as the capital region's single airport. With 25.5 million passengers in 2024, up 10.4 percent, and around 26 million in 2025, it ranks third in Germany, served chiefly by easyJet, Ryanair, Eurowings and Lufthansa. Cargo is the smaller story, but a growing one: roughly 44,300 tonnes passed through in 2024, and volume climbed to nearly 52,000 tonnes in 2025, up around 17 percent. Most of it travels as belly freight on passenger services, supplemented by selected freighter flights including e-commerce imports from Asia. Handling takes place at the Cargo Center on the southern edge of the site, built on the former Schönefeld freight area, with customs and a border veterinary inspection post on location. Because BER's long-haul network remains limited, trucking to Leipzig and Frankfurt is still routine for Berlin forwarders. Ground access is straightforward: the A113 motorway runs to the terminal, a rail station beneath Terminal 1 carries regional and long-distance trains, and central Berlin lies about 25 kilometres away.
