Overview
Chile (CL) extends as a narrow strip over approximately 4,300 kilometres along the Pacific coast of South America, from the Atacama Desert to Patagonia, and is a leading raw-material exporter and open Pacific gateway. As a member of the Pacific Alliance and CPTPP, and through bilateral FTAs (EFTA-Chile since 2004, EU-Chile), Chile offers broad market access. Imports are processed electronically through the SICEX single window with the DIN declaration at the Servicio Nacional de Aduanas; VAT (IVA) is 19 percent on the CIF value plus duty, with a general tariff of 6 percent (often 0 percent for FTA goods). The largest container port is San Antonio (approximately 1.8 million TEU; Puerto Exterior project worth USD 4.45 billion approved, Phase 1 capacity 1.5 million TEU, completion approx. 2036), followed by Valparaíso, Antofagasta and San Vicente. The air cargo hub is Santiago (SCL). Ruta 5 (Panamericana) is the main north–south corridor; Paso Los Libertadores connects Chile with Argentina. Copper ore, copper semi-finished products and lithium carbonate dominate exports; fresh fruit, salmon and wine complement the portfolio.
