About This Airport

LATAM Cargo Chile anchors the freight operation at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez (SCL), running a fleet of six Boeing 767 freighters to around 21 destinations across South America, North America and Europe. Located in the Pudahuel district about 15 kilometres northwest of central Santiago, the airport concentrates almost all of Chile's international air cargo. In 2024 it handled 409,824 tonnes of freight, a volume built largely on perishable exports: salmon accounts for roughly 61 percent and cherries for about 28 percent of the mix, with the United States the leading market. Since 23 May 2026 LATAM Cargo has also flown a new weekly freighter service between Frankfurt and Antofagasta in northern Chile, aimed at the mining sector as well as automotive, pharma and consolidated general cargo, offering an alternative to the existing routing via Santiago. During the 2023/24 cherry season more than 7,500 tonnes were flown out, up 32 percent year on year. Belly capacity on LATAM's passenger flights and carriers such as American Airlines Cargo add further lift. Customs clearance is handled by the Servicio Nacional de Aduanas, and forwarders and cold-chain logistics centres cluster around the field. The Ruta 68 motorway links the airport directly to the container ports of San Antonio and Valparaíso, supporting combined air-sea routings. Throughput peaks during the southern-hemisphere summer, when fresh fruit moves to North America and Asia.
