ANF Airport (Andrés Sabella Gálvez International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Antofagasta's copper leaves Chile by ship; what flies out of Andrés Sabella Gálvez (IATA: ANF, ICAO: SCFA) is the light, urgent end of the same supply chain. The airport sits about ten kilometres north of the city and three kilometres from the Pacific, in one of the world's leading mining districts. Air cargo revolves around time-critical spare parts for the mines and belly capacity on scheduled flights, with ground handling by operators including Menzies Aviation; there is no dedicated freighter terminal. Its single runway of roughly 2,600 metres is being extended towards 2,800, allowing A320-family jets and occasional widebodies. Since August 2024 the airport has been operated under concession by a consortium of Sacyr (70%) and Cointer (30%), for a term of up to 26 years. Bulk minerals — copper cathodes and concentrates, nitrates, lithium compounds — move through the seaports of Antofagasta and Mejillones, while shippers needing freighter capacity turn to Iquique (IQQ) with its ZOFRI free zone some 400 km north, or Santiago (SCL) about 1,300 km south.
