No freighter fleet to speak of, yet Britain's biggest cargo airport: London Heathrow (IATA: LHR, ICAO: EGLL) moved roughly 1.5–1.6 million tonnes of air freight in 2024, more than 90 percent of it in the bellies of passenger aircraft. Forwarders reach the airport via the M4 and M25, 25 kilometres west of central London, with the Elizabeth Line linking the terminals to the city. An extensive road feeder service trucks import cargo across the UK and into continental Europe. The long-debated third runway returned to the government's agenda in 2025; until it exists, belly space remains the most contested commodity at LHR.
