BHX Airport (Birmingham Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

A 400-metre runway extension changed everything: since 2014, Birmingham Airport (IATA: BHX, ICAO: EGBB) has hosted nonstop long-haul — and with it, belly cargo capacity for the West Midlands. Emirates serves Dubai several times daily, at times with the A380, alongside links to the Indian subcontinent: trade lanes with dense freight demand from the region's industry and diaspora. A dedicated cargo area with customs clearance handles bellyhold consignments; full freighters remain the exception, and much regional tonnage still trucks to East Midlands or Heathrow. Since that 2014 extension, annual cargo volume has grown from around 5,100 tonnes to roughly 62,000 tonnes today. Passenger traffic runs at around 13.7 million a year (2025), led by Jet2, Ryanair and TUI. The airport sits directly off the M42, 13 kilometres east of the city centre, with Birmingham International station on the mainline network. The NEC exhibition complex is next door, and the future HS2 interchange will put London about 40 minutes away. For forwarders, BHX is the belly-capacity complement in a region whose freighter traffic flows through East Midlands.
