AMS Airport (Amsterdam Airport Schiphol) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Flowers, vegetables and fish set the tone at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (IATA: AMS, ICAO: EHAM): perishables are the Dutch trademark, moving in vast volumes through a dense cool-chain operated by handlers dnata, Swissport, Menzies and WFS and tied to the world's largest flower auction in neighbouring Aalsmeer. Overall the airport handled about 1.43 million tonnes of air cargo in 2025, down 4 percent, keeping it in Europe's leading group alongside Frankfurt, Paris-CDG and Istanbul; the first quarter of 2026 returned to growth with 361,829 tonnes, up 5 percent year on year. Roughly 56 percent travels on full freighters and 44 percent in passenger bellies. Home carrier KLM anchors the offer through Air France-KLM Martinair Cargo, joined by Emirates SkyCargo, China Southern Cargo and Turkish Cargo. Pharmaceuticals move via Pharma Gateway Amsterdam, while Swissport expanded its Terminal 12 to 43,800 square metres of handling space from January 2026. Slot constraints remain a structural headache, with freighters competing against passenger flights for scarce windows at this capacity-limited airport. On the passenger side Schiphol counts 65 to 67 million travellers a year, third in Europe. Ground access is exemplary, with a rail station directly beneath the terminal and the A4 and A9 motorways serving the freight zone nine kilometres from central Amsterdam.
