Starting July 1, 2026, it will become serious for trucks in the Netherlands. A new kilometer-dependent toll will then be introduced on almost all motorways and on selected regional and municipal roads. Dutch and foreign trucks over 3.5 tons are affected. This means that Swiss, German, Belgian, and other international fleets must also be prepared. Every affected truck needs a functioning toll device. Prior to this, a contract must be concluded with an approved toll service provider, or an existing EETS contract for the Netherlands must be extended. Simply entering and paying later does not work. The amount of the toll depends on the vehicle weight, Euro emissions standard, and CO₂ class. Cleaner and lighter vehicles pay less. The average rate at the start is approximately 19.1 cents per kilometer. From September 1, 2026, a temporary reduction of 22.3 percent is planned. At the same time, the Netherlands is exiting the Eurovignette system. From July 1, the Eurovignette will no longer be sufficient there. It will continue to be required for Luxembourg and Sweden. For freight forwarders, this means: check vehicles, contracts, and toll devices now. Anyone driving without a functioning device on July 1 risks a fine and unnecessary trouble.
