BOG Airport (El Dorado International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Cut flowers are what define El Dorado: Colombia is among the world's largest flower exporters, and Bogotá's airport (IATA: BOG, ICAO: SKBO) is where most of those stems leave the country, alongside seafood, tropical fruit, vegetables, herbs and textiles. In 2024 the airport handled a historic 809,029 tonnes of cargo, the most ever and the largest volume of any airport in Latin America and the Caribbean (34th worldwide), a record it extended again in 2025. Sitting about 15 km west of the city at 2,548 m elevation, BOG faces thin-air payload limits that shape how heavy freighters are loaded and scheduled. Avianca Cargo is based here and leads the freight market, joined by LATAM Cargo and the global integrators FedEx, UPS and DHL. The cold chain peaks twice a year: for the 2026 Mother's Day season alone, more than 430 dedicated flights left BOG and the flower airport of Rionegro (MDE) carrying temperature-controlled blooms to North America and Europe. The airport is operated by OPAIN, a consortium that includes Switzerland's Flughafen Zürich AG. Exports clear through DIAN, Colombia's customs authority, supported by free-trade zones (zonas francas) around the capital. In the first half of 2026 alone, El Dorado concentrated 74.8% of Colombia's national air cargo total of 570,333 tonnes. With no significant freight rail link to Bogotá, trucking across the Andean plateau handles the landside leg.
