Valledupar is a domestic airport first and a freight option second: Alfonso López Pumarejo Airport (VUP/SKVP) moves cargo almost entirely as belly capacity on scheduled passenger flights. Around 468,000 passengers used the airport in 2024, served by Avianca, LATAM and EasyFly on routes to Bogotá and Barranquilla. No dedicated cargo terminal or regular freighter service is confirmed here; shipments are handled by external logistics providers covering pick-up, storage and customs paperwork. The site also functions as a Colombian Air Force and police base, which limits civil handling capacity. International air freight from the Cesar region normally routes through Bogotá El Dorado (BOG) or Barranquilla Ernesto Cortissoz (BAQ), a road feeder run of several hours. For heavy or price-sensitive goods, the Caribbean ports of Santa Marta and Barranquilla are usually the better answer. Customs clearance is handled by DIAN, with ICA approvals required on agricultural exports.
