Bulgaria (ISO-Code: BG) is located in southeastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula and borders Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece, and Turkey. Politically, the country is a parliamentary republic and a member of the European Union and NATO. The climate varies from continental in the interior with cold winters and warm summers to Mediterranean along the Black Sea coast. Economically, Bulgaria is characterized by machinery, chemicals, food production, and increasingly by IT services, while the agricultural sector has regional significance. The country is dependent on imports for energy, machinery, vehicles, and consumer goods. As a logistically important hub in Southeast Europe, Bulgaria plays a role in transit traffic between Europe and the Middle East, supported by well-developed roads, railways, and seaports on the Black Sea. The national currency is the Bulgarian Lev (BGN), which is fixed to the Euro and ensures stable trade and payment relationships.
