About This Seaport
The 2025 opening of the Advanced Container Terminal (ACT) at Berth 28 gave Burgas (BG BOJ), Bulgaria's largest port on the western Black Sea, the country's deepest container berth — 260 m of quay at 15.5 m depth. The port is run by BMF Port Burgas, the country's largest private operator and concessionaire of the Burgas East-2 and Burgas West terminals, which handle dry bulk, liquid bulk, grain, general cargo and containers. Total throughput reached roughly 19 million tonnes in 2024, while container traffic has grown around 238% since 2014 (about 130,000 TEU in 2023), confirming Burgas as a genuine container access point rather than a bulk-only harbour. Separately, Lukoil Neftohim operates the Rosenets oil terminal for the Balkans' largest refinery, where crude arrives by tanker. Inland connections run via the Trakia motorway (A1) toward Sofia and the Bulgarian rail network. As EU customs territory, Burgas simplifies clearance and documentation compared with non-EU Black Sea ports. Shippers needing higher container frequencies or larger vessels typically turn to Constanța in Romania, while Varna remains the closest domestic alternative.
