Three carriers shape Vanguardia: Satena, EasyFly and Avianca, with the latter two concentrating on the short hop to Bogotá. Satena does the heavier lifting for the region, flying from Villavicencio to Mitú, Puerto Carreño and Puerto Inírida — towns the road network barely reaches. A 300-metre runway extension in 2007 opened the field to freighter types such as the Boeing 727, giving the eastern plains a genuine air-cargo lifeline for food, fuel, building materials and consumer goods. This makes VVC a real feeder for the Llanos and neighbouring Amazonia rather than a glamour stop. Heavy and international consignments still consolidate at Bogotá El Dorado (BOG), Colombia's main cargo base. For forwarders, Villavicencio is where the highway grid hands off to aircraft serving roadless territory.
