Around 2.2 million passengers and some 27,400 aircraft movements passed through Palonegro (IATA: BGA, ICAO: SKBG) in 2024, keeping the airport among Colombia's ten busiest. Built on a mountain ridge about 7 km west of Bucaramanga in Santander, it is served by Avianca, LATAM, EasyFly, Wingo and Copa Airlines, with Copa's link to Panama City (Tocumen) feeding the region into intercontinental networks. Its roughly 12,000 tonnes of annual cargo travel mainly as belly freight on these passenger services: regional manufactured goods, poultry products, footwear and time-critical express shipments. Heavier or export-bound consignments are usually consolidated through Bogotá's El Dorado cargo complex, to which Bucaramanga connects by road and feeder flight. Customs clearance and bonded storage are handled on site by Colombia's DIAN authority through approved warehouses, making BGA a practical regional collection point rather than a long-haul freighter base.
