Named after José Celestino Mutis, the botanist whose Royal Botanical Expedition was based in Mariquita in the 18th century, this Tolima airport carries the IATA code MQU. With two runways, it sees only very limited scheduled traffic and serves mainly general aviation. There are no air-freight facilities; produce from the hot Tolima valleys travels by road toward Bogotá or Ibagué. Time-critical cargo is handled at Bogotá's El Dorado, a few hours away by road.
