BSC Airport (José Celestino Mutis Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Fish and seafood out, groceries, building materials and spare parts in — that is the cargo reality of José Celestino Mutis Airport (BSC, SKBS), three kilometres from Bahía Solano on Colombia's Pacific coast in Chocó department. No road links the town to the interior, so the airport and the sea are the only ways in, which gives a modest field unusual importance. Its asphalt runway 18/36 measures about 1,211 by 24 metres at near sea level, limiting operations to smaller turboprops. State carrier Satena serves Medellín (Olaya Herrera, EOH), Quibdó and Cali, EasyFly also operates here, and charter operator Aeroejecutivos flies in from Medellín; freight travels as loose consignments in the holds of those aircraft. There is no documented cargo terminal, pallet handling or on-airport cold chain, and no customs post, since no international services operate. Export consignments from Chocó are therefore cleared inland, with José María Córdova at Rionegro near Medellín (MDE) the relevant customs and cargo airport and El Caraño at Quibdó (UIB) the regional staging point. For larger volumes shippers price in the sea route through Buenaventura instead.
