Heriberto Gíl Martínez Airport (IATA: ULQ, ICAO: SKUL) at Tuluá has no scheduled commercial service and no cargo handling: its single 1,200-metre runway is too short to attract airlines. Also known as Farfán, the field in the sugar-growing Cauca Valley is used by the Colombian Air Force for training from the Marco Fidel Suárez military aviation school (EMAVI) at Cali and by police aviation. There is no freight terminal, no freighter traffic and no customs post. The airport was renamed in 2004 after Heriberto Gíl Martínez, one of Colombia's first aviators and a co-founder of the air force. Regional air freight is handled at Cali Alfonso Bonilla Aragón (IATA: CLO) about 100 kilometres south, a base for flower and perishables exports, or at Bogotá El Dorado (IATA: BOG). Ocean freight moves through the Pacific port of Buenaventura via the Buga–Buenaventura motorway, so forwarders treat Tuluá as a road node rather than an air-cargo point.
