YEG Airport (Edmonton International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

A $100-million federal investment announced in 2022 is converting roughly 2,000 acres at Edmonton International Airport (YEG/CYEG) into a new international cargo hub, part of the airport's broader International Cargo Hub Project. A further $36-million cargo apron expansion, backed by an $18-million grant from the National Trades Corridor Fund, is adding aircraft parking and a new hydrant fuelling system for freighters. Edmonton has long operated as one of western Canada's key 24-hour freight airports, unrestricted by the night curfews that limit cargo operations at busier passenger hubs. No specific freighter airlines with confirmed scheduled service could be verified in this research; existing capacity rests on a mix of belly cargo from scheduled carriers and charter or project freight tied to Alberta's oil, gas and agricultural sectors. Road connections via the Trans-Canada Highway and a dense trucking network link Edmonton to Calgary, Vancouver and the United States. Calgary International (YYC) and Vancouver International (YVR) serve as alternative gateways for larger international freight volumes. For Alberta's energy, agriculture and manufacturing exporters, Edmonton's ongoing cargo infrastructure build-out signals real growth potential ahead.
