Morningstar Air Express Inc. is a Canadian cargo airline based at Edmonton International Airport (YEG) in Alberta. The company was founded in 1970 as Brooker Wheaton Aviation Ltd. by the Edmonton businessmen Don Wheaton and Bev Brooker. It has traded under its present name since the early 1990s, after the Ward family acquired half of the airline following the sale of Wardair. Bill McGoey is president and Greg Fowler general manager. The operating model is pure ACMI. Morningstar flies under a long-term contract for FedEx Express Canada, operating scheduled all-cargo services coast to coast within Canada. The company is also licensed to operate on-demand international all-cargo charter flights. Morningstar does not market cargo capacity to shippers or forwarders in its own right. According to the company, the fleet comprises nine Boeing 757-200, four ATR 72, four Cessna 408 SkyCourier and four Cessna 208B aircraft (as of 18 September 2026; the website states no date of its own). The aircraft operate in FedEx Feeder livery. The first Cessna 408 SkyCourier arrived in Edmonton on 19 August 2025, making Morningstar the newest contract operator of the type for FedEx. Edmonton (YEG) is both base and head office. The company maintains further locations in Vancouver (YVR), Calgary (YYC), Winnipeg (YWG), Toronto (YYZ), Ottawa (YOW), Montreal-Mirabel (YMX), Moncton (YQM) and Halifax (YHZ). It employs more than 300 staff. The ICAO code is MAL and the callsign is MORNINGSTAR. The company holds neither its own IATA designator nor its own AWB prefix. For forwarders, Morningstar is therefore not a bookable carrier but the operating airline behind FedEx domestic services in Canada. Morningstar additionally runs an Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) for Aerospatiale, Airbus, Boeing and Cessna types.
