Overview
Kosovo (ISO code XK) is a landlocked country in Southeast Europe on the Balkan Peninsula, bordering Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro. It is a parliamentary republic with partial international recognition. The continental climate brings hot summers and cold, snowy winters. The economy is driven by services, followed by industry and a small agricultural sector. Foreign trade is heavily import-dependent, above all energy, machinery and consumer goods, while exports include base metals, minerals, plastics and agricultural products. Without its own seaport, Kosovo relies on the ports of Durres (Albania) and Thessaloniki (Greece) and on road, rail and air links. The country uses the euro unilaterally (since 2002) although it is not an EU member, and acts as a regional road-transport hub on the Western Balkans.
