NAP Airport (Naples International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Naples Capodichino (NAP/LIRN) handled 9,466 tonnes of cargo in 2024, down 13.1 percent year on year — a figure larger European freight airports clear in a single day. Almost all of it is belly cargo carried in passenger aircraft; regular dedicated freighter rotations are not confirmed for the airport. For shippers in Campania the practical consequence is clear: small consignments, express traffic, spare parts and samples work well through Naples, while palletised industrial freight, bulk dangerous goods and temperature-controlled pharmaceutical loads generally do not. The airport sits roughly 6 km northeast of the city centre, which keeps trucking distances short but also constrains the apron and warehouse footprint. In practice most of the region's air freight moves as a road feeder service up the A1 motorway to Rome Fiumicino (FCO), about 230 km away, or on to Milan Malpensa (MXP), Italy's dominant freighter gateway — and customs clearance then takes place there rather than in Naples. For sea freight and multimodal combinations, the Port of Naples is the obvious local alternative and often the better answer for volume. Treat Capodichino as a feeder and express point for Campania, not as a cargo gateway.
