PMO Airport (Falcone–Borsellino Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Some 9.2 million passengers passed through Palermo Airport in 2025 — 9,220,905, up 3.4 percent — confirming Sicily's north-western gateway (IATA: PMO, ICAO: LICJ) as the island's second-busiest after Catania. Since 1995 the field has carried the names of anti-Mafia investigators Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, murdered in 1992; the bomb that killed Falcone exploded on the motorway not far from the airfield. Ryanair dominates the schedule, joined by seasonal routes from across Europe. Freight remains a niche: the airport handled about 1,534 tonnes in 2025, up 6.2 percent, with express and belly consignments clearing through a cargo area with customs. Cargo handlers present on site include DHL, FedEx and UPS. The region's perishable exports — fish, early vegetables, citrus — mostly reach mainland hubs by truck and ferry. The operator is GESAP. The setting at Punta Raisi is dramatic, wedged between the Mediterranean and the Pecoraro Raisi mountain 35 kilometres west of the city. The A29 motorway handles road access, and the airport's own railway station links to Palermo Centrale every half hour.
