BCN Airport (Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Squeezed between the Mediterranean and the city's edge, El Prat has little room to grow — yet it set a new cargo record in 2025: around 200,741 tonnes moved through Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (IATA: BCN, ICAO: LEBL), up 10.5% year-on-year, with December alone up 17.1%. That keeps Catalonia clearly ahead of Zaragoza as Spain's number two freight location. Main-deck lift comes from Qatar Airways Cargo, Emirates SkyCargo and Turkish Cargo freighters; the rest travels in the bellies of long-haul jets, with Singapore Airlines, United, Level and others serving Barcelona intercontinentally. Pharma is the airport's strong suit: Catalonia's industry around Grifols, Almirall and numerous contract manufacturers exports temperature-controlled product through GDP-compliant facilities in the cargo zone south of the runways. A customs office and border inspection posts for veterinary and phytosanitary goods operate on site. With roughly 57 million passengers in 2025, El Prat ranks as Spain's second-largest airport and Vueling's most important base. It is named after Josep Tarradellas, the first president of Catalonia's restored Generalitat after the Franco era. Convenient for forwarders: the Zona Franca, Barcelona's container port and the Llobregat delta logistics area sit right next door; the Ronda Litoral and the C-31 lead straight to the cargo zone, with the city centre a good twelve kilometres away.
