LPA Airport (Gran Canaria Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

For forwarders, Gran Canaria starts with a customs form: the Canary Islands belong to the EU but not to its VAT territory — every shipment to or from Gran Canaria Airport (IATA: LPA, ICAO: GCLP) requires an export or import declaration. The airport on the island's east coast is the archipelago's largest with around 14.5 million passengers in 2024, and its most important freight location too: operator figures point to roughly 20,000-25,000 tonnes of air cargo a year, making it the clear number one in the Canaries. Binter Canarias operates its inter-island hub here, flying mail, spare parts and press between the seven islands with its own cargo capacity. Added to that are belly freight on mainland flights, fresh fish from Canarian aquaculture heading out, and integrator express traffic. The bulk of the islands' supply moves through the port of Las Palmas (La Luz), one of the eastern Atlantic's key bunkering and transhipment ports. The airport operates around the clock, and the Spanish Air Force shares the site as Gando air base. The GC-1 motorway links the airport with Las Palmas, 19 kilometres north, in about 20 minutes.
