CTC Airport (Coronel Felipe Varela International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Catamarca province borders South America's lithium triangle, yet its Coronel Felipe Varela International Airport (IATA: CTC, ICAO: SANC) handled no commercial air cargo at all while carrying roughly 75,000 passengers in 2024. Built in 1972 and inaugurated in January 1973, the airport has been run by Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 since 1999 and serves San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca. Its 2,800-metre runway accepts Boeing 737-class aircraft, but there is no cargo shed, no cargo handling agent and no scheduled freighter service; Aerolíneas Argentinas flights to Buenos Aires make up most of the timetable. Lithium, copper and other mineral exports leave the province by road and seaport rather than by air. On-site customs clearance is not confirmed, so international consignments are declared in Buenos Aires. The workable alternatives are Tucumán (TUC), about 230 kilometres to the north-east, Córdoba (COR) some 400 kilometres to the south-east, and Ezeiza (EZE) for intercontinental air freight. No cargo development projects are confirmed for 2026, and the route network remains domestic.
