RCU Airport (Area De Material Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

About 45,000 domestic passengers passed through Río Cuarto Airport (RCU/SAOC) in Córdoba province in 2024 according to Argentina's civil aviation authority ANAC — and no dedicated air cargo at all, because the airport has no freight terminal. The field sits at Las Higueras, roughly 10 km north of Río Cuarto and directly on National Route 8 towards Buenos Aires. It also hosts the Argentine Air Force's Área Material Río Cuarto, the service's central maintenance unit, which supports the A-4AR Fightinghawk, IA-63 Pampa, EMB-312 Tucano and the F-16s acquired from Denmark; that makes RCU a technical base rather than a freight one. The surrounding region is one of Argentina's core peanut, soybean and maize areas, and its exports leave by truck and ocean vessel via Rosario or Buenos Aires. Time-critical air freight is tendered instead at Córdoba (COR, about 215 road kilometres north) or Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE, roughly 600 km), where customs clearance takes place. RCU remains useful for charter, corporate and air ambulance flights and as a diversion field, but it is not equipped for freighter operations.
