Overview
Saint-Martin (ISO code MF) is a French overseas collectivity (COM) covering the northern part of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, which it shares with the Dutch territory of Sint Maarten. It is an EU outermost region and part of the EU customs territory, yet enjoys fiscal autonomy and free-port status: imports are not subject to customs duties, VAT or dock dues (octroi de mer). The capital is Marigot and the currency is the euro, although the US dollar is widely accepted. The economy relies heavily on tourism, trade and services, and the territory depends almost entirely on imports for consumer goods, food, fuel and building materials.
