Overview

Aruba (ISO-Code: AW) is an island in the southern Caribbean, located north of Venezuela, and is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Politically, Aruba is an autonomous country within the kingdom with its own administration and legislation. The climate is tropical-arid with consistently warm temperatures, low rainfall, and dry trade winds, making the island particularly attractive for tourism. Economically, Aruba is primarily based on tourism, services, and the financial sector, supplemented by limited refining and trade activities. Foreign trade focuses on imports of food, fuels, consumer, and investment goods, while exports play a minor role. Aruba serves a limited transit function in the Caribbean, mainly through the port of Oranjestad and the international airport. The national currency is the Aruba Florin (AWG), and the US dollar is also widely accepted. The logistical infrastructure includes ports, roads, and airport facilities that support the flow of goods and the tourism sector. Thanks to stable political structures, a strategic location, and good infrastructure, Aruba is an important hub for trade, tourism, and services in the region.

Customs / Import / Export (Americas)

Quick operational overview for international shipments to the Americas. Depending on the destination, additional security filings, product requirements, or broker processes may apply.

Documents (typical)
  • Commercial invoice with clear description and value
  • Packing list (weights, dimensions, packages)
  • HS code / tariff classification
  • Proof of origin / preference docs (where relevant)
  • Transport documents (AWB / Bill of Lading) and potential pre-filing data
Process (simplified)
  • Prepare export + data readiness (HS code, origin, values)
  • Import clearance often handled via customs broker
  • Release, delivery, and duties/taxes based on valuation and classification
Common pitfalls
  • Missing/inconsistent values or wrong HS codes → delays
  • Incoterms unclear → who pays charges/broker fees?
  • Overlooked product/regulatory requirements
  • Incomplete data for security/pre-filings → holds/delays
Important: Requirements depend on goods, origin, Incoterms, value, and consignee. When in doubt, confirm with your broker/forwarder and official sources.
