Roughly 1,342 tonnes of air cargo moved through NAJ in 2014 — a modest figure that captures the airport's role precisely. Serving the capital of Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave cut off from the mainland by Armenian territory, it is primarily a passenger gateway operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, UTair and AJet to Baku, Istanbul and Moscow. Freight here is largely belly cargo, supported by an on-site handling facility and customs clearance. Shippers with heavier or time-critical consignments route them through Baku's Heydar Aliyev International (GYD), the national freight centre and home base of Silk Way West Airlines. For forwarders, NAJ functions as a regional feeder rather than a standalone cargo station.
