MAB Airport (João Correa da Rocha Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

What leaves the Carajás mining province by rail dwarfs anything that flies: iron ore rides the Carajás Railroad from Marabá and Parauapebas to the port of Ponta da Madeira at São Luís, while João Correa da Rocha Airport (MAB, SBMA) handled 898 tonnes of air cargo in 2025, down 28 per cent, alongside 379,347 passengers and 5,807 aircraft movements. Opened in 1978, the airport in south-eastern Pará has been run by Aena Brasil since the 2022 concession award and the contract signed in March 2023, on a 30-year term. Services are domestic only — Azul to Belém and Belo Horizonte (Confins), Gol and LATAM to Brasília — so freight moves as belly cargo in narrow-body holds, with no dedicated freighter service or stand-alone cargo terminal documented. Air freight here means spare parts, tooling, electronics, documents and perishables for the mining and agricultural economy rather than bulk commodities. No permanent customs post is documented at MAB, and international consignments normally clear through Val de Cans at Belém (BEL) or the large São Paulo cargo fields, Guarulhos (GRU) and Viracopos (VCP). The nearest regional alternative is Carajás Airport (CKS) at Parauapebas, roughly 150 road kilometres away.
