EMA Airport (East Midlands Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

DHL, UPS and FedEx all run their main UK hubs from East Midlands Airport (IATA: EMA, ICAO: EGNX), and that concentration makes it one of Britain's three largest cargo airports. The field at Castle Donington, Leicestershire handled 413,664 tonnes of freight in the 2025/26 financial year, up 12.5% and back above 400,000 tonnes for the first time since the pandemic. Royal Mail adds nightly mail flights, and cargo operations run around the clock — unusually for the UK, EMA has no night-flight curfew. Growth carried into 2026: 37,458 tonnes were handled in June 2026, 14% more than a year earlier, helped by larger freighters and additional direct China–UK services. Trucks reach Midlands warehousing within minutes via the M1 motorway, with Birmingham and Nottingham each about 30 kilometres away. Passenger traffic is led by Ryanair, Jet2 and TUI on leisure routes, so belly capacity matters little next to the dedicated freighter operation. For shippers, EMA is the reference point for express and parcel freight in central England, while intercontinental belly capacity consolidates at London Heathrow (LHR) and outsize project cargo often routes via Manchester (MAN).
