European Air Transport Leipzig GmbH, known in the market as EAT Leipzig, is a German all-cargo airline with its registered office and home base on the grounds of Leipzig/Halle Airport in Schkeuditz. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of DHL Group and part of the DHL Express division; all of its flights operate under the DHL brand. Operations started in spring 2008, in parallel with the build-up of DHL Express's European hub in Leipzig. EAT Leipzig operates its freighters under its own air operator certificate and is therefore not merely a sales brand of another carrier. DHL puts the fleet at 35 of its own Airbus and Boeing aircraft (as of September 2026); the types in service are the Airbus A300-600, the Airbus A330 and the Boeing 757. Alongside flight operations, the company runs its own freighter maintenance organisation in Leipzig as well as its own training centre for flight crews. According to company information, the network covers more than 50 destinations in Europe, parts of the Middle East, North Africa and North America, served with more than 400 flights per week. Besides the Leipzig/Halle (LEJ) hub, the most important nodes are the DHL freight hubs at Madrid (MAD), East Midlands (EMA) and Cincinnati (CVG), complemented by stations such as Lyon (LYS), Malta (MLA) and Seville (SVQ). For forwarders the codes matter most: IATA QY, ICAO BCS, air waybill prefix 615. Shipments under prefix 615 can be traced through the DHL Aviation Cargo portal. Bookings are not placed with EAT Leipzig directly but through DHL Aviation Cargo as the airport-to-airport sales arm, or through DHL Express. Acceptance of special cargo - dangerous goods, pharmaceuticals, perishables, live animals, human remains, lithium batteries - is, according to DHL, operator and destination specific and requires prior approval.
