JSO Airport (Dr. Luciano de Arruda Coelho Regional Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Sobral's new airport was built for passenger volumes that have yet to materialise — and for logistics purposes that fact defines Dr. Luciano de Arruda Coelho Regional Airport (JSO/SN6L). It opened on 1 April 2022, received its first commercial flight from Azul Conecta on 27 February 2023 and has been managed by Visac Aeroportos since April 2025, but a regular scheduled service is not currently confirmed. The 1.8-kilometre runway on roughly 180 hectares suits turboprops and small jets rather than freighters. There is no cargo terminal, no handling agent, no integrator base and no customs post. Sobral, in northern Ceará, lives on textiles, cement, footwear and a large university sector, and consignments from those industries move by truck along the BR-222. Air freight is consolidated at Fortaleza's Pinto Martins International (FOR), some 235 kilometres to the south-east, where customs clearance sits; Teresina (THE) is the western alternative and the port of Pecém covers the sea leg. For forwarders, JSO is a road pre-carriage location rather than an air cargo option.
