BGX Airport (Comandante Gustavo Kraemer Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Bagé keeps an airport labelled "international" but has no scheduled airline service to go with it: according to Brazil's civil aviation authority ANAC, Comandante Gustavo Kraemer (BGX/SBBG) recorded no regular commercial flights in the latest reporting period and handles general, business and air ambulance traffic only. The field lies about seven kilometres from the town centre and some 60 kilometres from the Uruguayan border, in the Campanha cattle and grain belt of southern Rio Grande do Sul. There is no cargo terminal, no freighter handling and no air-cargo customs post; restoring commercial flights has been a regional talking point through 2026 but nothing is operating. Planned air freight for the south of the state is consolidated at Porto Alegre-Salgado Filho (POA), roughly 380 road kilometres north, with customs clearance and national cargo connections. Trade with Uruguay moves almost entirely by truck through the Aceguá border crossing, and heavy volumes by sea through Rio Grande and Pelotas on the lagoon system. For forwarders, BGX is usable for charter and medical flights, not for bookable cargo capacity.
