JJD Airport (Comandante Ariston Pessoa Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Roughly 300,000 passengers a year move through Comandante Ariston Pessoa (JJD/SBJE), the airport that serves the wind-and-dune destination of Jericoacoara from the town of Cruz in Ceará, north-eastern Brazil. Azul, GOL and LATAM fly the field, and freight moves only as belly cargo in their passenger aircraft — there is no dedicated cargo terminal, no freighter handling and no customs office for international goods traffic. German operator Fraport took over the concession in September 2026 and has committed around 101 million reais to rebuilding the terminal roof, adding check-in desks and enlarging the departure and arrival areas. Construction is scheduled to start between February and March 2027 and may run for up to 36 months, which pushes the long-discussed international status of the airport well beyond the current decade's midpoint. For planned air freight into north-western Ceará the reference point is Fortaleza (FOR), some 220 road kilometres away, with customs clearance and intercontinental cargo links; Natal/São Gonçalo do Amarante (NAT) is the secondary option. Forwarders should budget several hours of road feeder time between Fortaleza and the Jericoacoara area.
