RAE Airport (Arar Domestic Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

At Arar the real freight story happens on the road, not on the apron: Arar Domestic Airport (RAE/OERR) in Saudi Arabia's Northern Borders Province handles essentially belly cargo in passenger aircraft, while the Jadidat Arar land crossing some 50 km north carries the region's trade with Iraq. The airport's single asphalt runway 10/28 measures 3,050 by 45 metres, technically adequate for narrowbody freighters, and a terminal completed in 2019 is designed for more than one million passengers and up to 10,000 movements a year. Scheduled service is provided mainly by Saudia and flyadeal, with Air Cairo operating seasonally; no dedicated cargo terminal, cold chain or dangerous-goods facility is confirmed at RAE. Shippers therefore route air freight through Riyadh King Khalid International (RUH) or Dammam King Fahd International (DMM) and truck it onward, roughly 1,000 road kilometres from Riyadh. The Jadidat Arar crossing reopened in 2020 for goods traffic only and now operates as a land port with a logistics area and a trade exchange yard, making it the practical option for volume freight to Iraq. National figures point to Saudi air cargo growing about 34% to more than 1.2 million tonnes, a trend that could eventually add connections at feeder airports such as Arar.
