King Abdulaziz Air Base is a military installation, not a commercial cargo gateway — a distinction that matters for any shipper routing freight to Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. Until 1999 the site operated as Dhahran International Airport and handled the region's civil traffic, but those services transferred to the newly opened King Fahd International (DMM), and the base now serves chiefly the Royal Saudi Air Force and state flights. There is no scheduled passenger or freighter operation here, and the field offers no commercial cargo terminal or customs throughput. The legacy IATA code DHA and ICAO code OEDR survive from its civil-aviation past. For air freight to Dhahran, Dammam and the wider province, the operative hub is King Fahd International (DMM), about 20 kilometres to the north-west, with its own cargo village and bonded facilities. Logistics flows should be addressed exclusively to DMM. Treat DHA as off-limits for commercial cargo planning.
