AJU Airport (Aracaju - Santa Maria International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Sergipe's air freight story is one of steady, unspectacular growth: Aracaju–Santa Maria International Airport (AJU/SBAR) handled 2,548 tonnes of cargo in 2025, up 14 per cent year on year. Aena Brasil has run the airport since February 2020 under a concession covering several north-eastern Brazilian airports, and the trend has held — 1,310 tonnes in the first half of 2026, 19.4 per cent above the same period a year earlier, including 213 tonnes in June 2026 alone. Almost all of that moves as belly cargo on domestic services operated by Azul, Gol and LATAM; no dedicated freighter rotations or standalone cargo terminal are documented at AJU. Heavy, hazardous or intercontinental consignments are therefore routed through Salvador (SSA), about 330 km by road, or Recife (REC), both of which offer substantially more freight capacity and customs infrastructure. Maceió (MCZ), roughly 290 km away, sits within the same trucking radius. Exporters based in Sergipe should budget for that road leg as a standing part of the transit time.
