Despite the word "International" in its name, Dr. Augusto Roberto Fuster Airport (IATA PJC, ICAO SGPJ) at Pedro Juan Caballero currently carries no scheduled airline service and has no dedicated cargo terminal. It serves the capital of Paraguay's Amambay department, a border city that merges directly into Ponta Porã in Brazil's Mato Grosso do Sul state across an open urban frontier. Regional trade in soy, beef, consumer goods and maquila output therefore moves overwhelmingly by truck through Mercosur customs posts rather than by air. Where air freight is genuinely required, Silvio Pettirossi International Airport at Asunción (ASU), about 530 km to the southwest, and Campo Grande (CGR) in Brazil, roughly 320 km east, are the practical gateways. Paraguayan customs maintains a land border office in Pedro Juan Caballero, but air cargo clearance takes place at those larger airports. Treat PJC as a delivery area within a routing rather than as a transhipment point.
