Passar API authentication describes how customs-clearance software proves its identity to Passar, the goods-traffic system of the Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG), so that it may submit electronic goods declarations and receive responses. In plain terms for private individuals and shippers: you do not simply log in with a password – the software identifies itself with a digital key (token) that customs has issued beforehand. For professionals (forwarders, hauliers, customs agents, trading firms, software providers): Passar is initially accessible only via an application programming interface (API); the technical connection runs through the BAZG API Portal. Authentication to the B2B interface today uses tokens (no longer certificates). These tokens are obtained, after successful onboarding, in the BAZG ePortal under the "API Self-Service" tile – which only appears if at least one business-partner role has "active" status. There you subscribe to the "B2B HuB Partner API for Passar declarations", create an application via "Create Application" and integrate the issued tokens into the clearance software. Access to the ePortal itself relies on a personal login with two-factor authentication (via AGOV). A B2B connection is only required when BAZG services are used with commercial third-party software; the software provider assists with the setup. To be distinguished from manual entry in the browser via the Declar or e-dec Web applications (no own system connection needed) and from a mere personal login to the ePortal.
